Alex Michelsen, the 20-year-old American tennis talent, is targeting a home debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The 6-foot-4-inch player reached the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open, completing his set of major main draws.

Michelsen Eager for Olympic Debut on Home Turf

Michelsen missed out on Paris 2024 but is determined to qualify for the LA Games.

The Aliso Viejo native narrowly missed qualifying for the Paris 2024 Games. While he feels he didn’t quite deserve a spot then, Michelsen is now filled with anticipation for a potential Olympic debut on home soil.

“It would be incredible, it would one of the greatest things that I would get to experience in this life – I thought about it a lot,” Michelsen shared. “I really hope I can make the cut. I know all the American guys are going to want to play. It’s in LA, it’s close to my home…I really want to play.”

From Video Games to the Olympic Stage

Michelsen, an avid gamer, grew up immersed in Olympic video games alongside the actual Games. He vividly recalls playing during the London 2012 Olympics.

“I played a lot of that in the London 2012 Olympics,” he recalled. “I just did everything. I remember watching the London 2012 Games and Fed [Roger Federer] and [Stan] Wawrinka play Nishikori [Kei] and [Soeda Go] in doubles. It was an absolutely sick match.”
