The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that it has opened an investigation against the American manufacturer of electric cars “Tesla”, reported Reuters.

The investigation is to determine whether Tesla’s decision, announced in December 2023, to recall more than 2 million vehicles for repairs was justified. Then the company announced that their automated control systems, known as “Autopilot”, had to be replaced.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Administration is investigating traffic accidents involving cars that have been installed with an updated version of the software for the computer system that controls the automated system.

The agency says that Tesla has updated the software of the automated control system. This was done in response to the expressed concerns about ensuring safety, BTA reported.

However, the company has not demonstrated “a determination to fix a (potential – ed.) defect that poses an unreasonable safety risk,” according to the US transportation safety regulator.
