USA: Austria’s ex-Chancellor Sebastian Kurz moves to Silicon Valley – politics abroad

by time news

Former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (35) takes on a job in Silicon Valley! According to BILD information, Kurz will become “Global Strategist” at “Thiel Capital”.

Peter Thiel is known as a tech investor on Facebook, is himself a Republican and supported former US President Donald Trump (75) in the US election campaign.

In the past few days, there had been speculation in the media about the former chancellor’s new job. It is planned that Kurz and his family will commute between the USA and Austria in the future.

According to industry experts, a salary of up to half a million euros is in the room.

Kurz did not comment on the reports. On Christmas Eve he wrote his Christmas greetings on Twitter in English: “Merry Christmas, relaxing holidays and a happy New Year to you all!”. Translated: “Merry Christmas, relaxed holidays and a happy new year to all of you!”

Kurz resigned as Federal Chancellor in October after allegations of corruption.

The background is the investigations against him and confidants for breach of trust, bribery and corruption. It’s about fake polls from 2017 that were published in the newspaper “Austria” and are said to have helped Kurz on his way to power.

The ex-chancellor denies all allegations. He initially remained head of the conservative ÖVP and parliamentary group leader, but at the beginning of December he abruptly announced his resignation from all political offices.

A unique political career came to an end with his resignation. Kurz was the youngest head of government in the world and was seen as a conservative model politician.

Before that, he and his girlfriend had become parents. The birth of his son changed his perspective, he said.
