USWNT Defeats Portugal 3-1 in Connecticut
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (Oct. 26, 2025) – The U.S. Women’s National Team secured a 3-1 victory over Portugal, fueled by a dynamic performance from a youthful lineup. The match, played at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, drew the second-largest crowd in USWNT history for a home game.
Coming off a loss to Portugal last Thursday, the USWNT responded emphatically, earning their ninth win of the year. Olivia Moultrie led the charge with two goals – the first just 44 seconds into the match, marking the USWNT’s fourth goal within the opening minute this year and the 21st in program history. Sam Coffey added a late goal to seal the win.
Head coach Emma Hayes fielded a significantly younger starting XI, with eight changes from the previous match. Emily Sonnett, with 112 caps, captained the team, vastly outnumbering the combined 100 caps of the rest of the starting lineup.
Portugal managed only one shot on target, converting it into a goal by Jéssica Silva in the 5th minute – marking the first goals ever scored by Portugal against the USA.
The starting lineup featured teenagers Lily Yohannes, Claire Hutton, and Jordyn Bugg, alongside 20-year-olds Moultrie and Jaedyn Shaw, showcasing the future of the USWNT.
