Motorists in the area will be able to return to their habits and, above all, waste less time with diversions. After five weeks of closure, the bridge linking Joinville-le-Pont to Maisons-Alfort reopened to traffic this Friday. Since October 21 and the rupture of a drinking water pipe, only pedestrians have been able to use it and go from one bank to the other.

On the night of the incident, departmental road 148 was flooded between the water plant and the lock after a sudden rise in water. Five vehicles traveling there were trapped by the water, fortunately without causing any injuries. A gigantic pond was then created on this avenue Pierre-Mendès France, which connects Maisons-Alfort to Joinville-le-Pont by crossing the Marne. “We had to call a repairman, around 4 a.m., to get them out of there, they were stuck in the water, it was impressive,” reported a police source at the time of the incident.

Two weeks of work

To carry out the work, “the Veolia company carried out, in close collaboration with the Val-de-Marne department, investigations into the state of the road, cycle paths, sidewalks and engineering structures. , in order to detect the presence of a vacuum which could have caused other difficulties,” specifies the departmental council. The water, by leaking under the roadway, could have damaged it.

Finally, the work was launched on November 13 and was completed at the very end of the month. Part of the roadway had to be broken in order to make the repairs. The covering was then redone. Traffic is now effective in both directions.
