He didn’t feel any warning signs. The heart attack seized the mayor of Kremlin-Bicêtre in the middle of the night, in the evening of Thursday December 21 to Friday December 22. Jean-Luc Laurent (MRC), 66, is currently hospitalized after “a cardiovascular attack”, the town announced this Saturday.
“He is in a serious but stable condition,” said one of his close collaborators. No release date from the hospital is yet known. Jean-Luc Laurent did not have a stroke, the city insists to correct certain erroneous rumors.
His wife had taken him to the emergency department in the night seeing her husband suddenly feel unwell. “And it was there, in the emergency room, that he had his attack,” says those around him. A process which allowed him to benefit from immediate treatment by doctors.
Jean-Luc Laurent has been in good health until now. “He is a force of nature, a true workaholic,” describes his office. He stopped smoking many years ago.
Returned to the head of the city in 2020
This convinced Chevènementist is currently president of the Republican and Citizen Movement (MRC) and vice-president of Grand Orly Seine Bièvre, in charge of cultural facilities. He became mayor of Kremlin-Bicêtre in 1995. He remained until 2016, when he gave way to his first deputy Jean-Marc Nicolle (ex-MRC). In the meantime, he was elected deputy for the 10th constituency of Val-de-Marne from 2012 to 2017, before being beaten by the rebellious Mathilde Panot in June 2017. He managed to regain his mayor’s chair in 2020 after elections and, above all, a long legal battle.
The results of the ballot, which gave Jean-Luc Laurent the winner, were canceled in 2021 following appeals to the administrative court by two candidates, including Jean-Marc Nicolle. But at the beginning of 2022, the Council of State – the highest administrative court in the country – will itself annul the decision of the Melun magistrates.
It is Jean-Luc Laurent’s first deputy, Jean-François Delage, who is acting as mayor for the immediate future.
