A Historic Landmark Reborn

Built in 1938 on State Street, the Murray Theater quickly established itself as a local landmark, being among the first venues in the area to showcase color films like The Wizard of Oz. For decades, it served as a cultural hub, creating lasting memories for generations. Following years of careful planning and restoration, and its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, the theater’s marquee once again illuminates State Street. The building’s classic art deco design has been meticulously preserved, while incorporating modern updates to ensure comfort and accessibility for today’s audiences.

“The Murray Theater is just one example of the many ways we’re working to make Murray a place where everyone feels welcome and proud to live,” stated Mayor Brett Hales. “Whether you come here for a concert, visit our parks, or stop by city Hall for our holiday festivity, we want Murray to feel like coming home.”

The grand opening event on September 27 featured a performance by world-renowned singer Loren Allred,a Murray native, who captivated a sold-out crowd with her rendition of ‘never Enough’ from The Greatest Showman. The evening was a testament to the community’s pride in the theater’s revival.
