IdahoS women’s basketball team suffered a decisive defeat against the Montana State Bobcats on saturday, falling 99-66 in Bozeman, Montana. The loss drops Idaho to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Montana State improves to 11-4 and remains undefeated at 4-0 in conference matchups.

Early Struggles Set the Tone

The Montana State Bobcats established control early, racing to a 14-6 lead by the first media timeout. The Vandals were unable to recover from this initial deficit, consistently trailing throughout the remainder of the contest. The Bobcats’ strong start proved to be a harbinger of things to come, as they ultimately outscored Idaho by a significant margin.

Did you know? – Montana State’s 99 points marked a season high for the Bobcats, showcasing their offensive prowess. Idaho struggled to contain their scoring throughout the game, contributing to the large point differential.

Pinheiro Shines Despite Loss

Despite the team’s overall struggles, Ana Pinheiro, a sophomore from Portugal, delivered a standout performance for Idaho. Pinheiro led the Vandals in scoring with 15 points and also secured six rebounds. This marked the fifth time in the last six games that Pinheiro has been the team’s leading scorer, demonstrating her growing importance to the Idaho offence.

“Pinheiro is consistently a force on the court,” a team spokesperson noted. “Her ability to score and rebound is crucial for our success.”

Pinheiro also led the team in rebounding for the second time this season, further solidifying her all-around contribution. Debora Dos Santos also contributed effectively, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor and adding 10 points and five rebounds. Hope Hassmann recorded two steals for the Vandals.

Pro tip – Effective rebounding is key to controlling the game’s tempo. Idaho was out-rebounded by Montana State, limiting second-chance opportunities and contributing to the loss.
