Vanessa Hudgens makes rare red-carpet return at 2026 HollyShorts Film Festival

Vanessa Hudgens made a rare red-carpet appearance at 37 years old during the opening night of the 2026 HollyShorts Film Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, stepping out in a slinky cream satin maxi dress just months after welcoming her second child.

A Red-Carpet Return in Hollywood

Vanessa Hudgens stepped out for the opening night of the 2026 HollyShorts Film Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre over the weekend, marking one of her most high-profile appearances since welcoming her second child with husband Cole Tucker late last year. The actress attended the event following a period spent embracing family life with her husband, a former professional baseball player. The couple first sparked romance rumors in 2020 and became engaged in 2023, before tying the knot later that year in a romantic ceremony in Mexico. They welcomed their first child, a son, in July 2024 before expanding their family again in late 2025 with the arrival of a daughter. They have chosen to keep both children’s names and faces largely out of the public eye.

Motherhood has inevitably changed Vanessa’s priorities, prompting her to become far more selective about her public appearances than she was during the height of her Disney fame. Two decades after High School Musical transformed her into one of the most recognizable young stars in Hollywood, her latest appearance proves she can still command a red carpet.

Nostalgic Styling and Nods to the 1990s

For the festival appearance, Hudgens paired her red-carpet return with a wardrobe and beauty look drawing clear inspiration from the past. Wearing a slinky cream satin maxi dress featuring contrasting black straps and delicate lace detailing across the bust, the elegant floor-length design skimmed her figure before falling into a fluid skirt. She kept her accessories understated with a sparkling silver mini bag and delicate jewelry, while her signature dark hair was worn loose and glossy around her shoulders, and smoky eye makeup, glowing skin and a nude lip completed the effortlessly glamorous look. Her L’Agence slip dress kept the aesthetic simple yet glamorous.

Her beauty choices leaned heavily into nostalgic aesthetics. Hudgens stepped onto the red carpet looking as though she had jumped out of a 1992 Revlon ad, sporting voluminous hair styled in a big, bombshell blowout reminiscent of Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer. Her long, glossy hair was swept dramatically over to one side, with lots of lift at the roots and big, soft waves cascading down to her ribs, while her eyes were fully lined in a manner reminiscent of 1990s cosmetic trends.

Honored With the Luminary Award

Hudgens wasn’t simply attending the festival as a guest. She was honored with the Luminary Award in recognition of her career and support of independent filmmaking, while also attending in connection with her latest film, America.

A Sweet Reunion on Festival Night

Two Decades After High School Musical

The rare appearance offered a wave of nostalgia for long-time fans who first fell in love with Vanessa when she played Gabriella Montez opposite Zac Efron’s Troy Bolton in High School Musical 20 years ago. While decades have passed since her early days, her red-carpet choices and industry recognition highlight a career that has successfully bridged early teen stardom with independent film advocacy.
