Vantrue N4 Pro S Dashcam Review: Streamlined Installation, Spotty WiFi Performance
Table of Contents
A comprehensive package adn easy setup are hallmarks of the Vantrue N4 Pro S dashcam, though connectivity issues temper the overall experience. The device, recently evaluated by our team, arrives with everything needed for a professional-grade installation, including a hardwire kit, a CPL lens, and a Vantrue-branded SD card.
Installation: A User-Friendly Experience
The review unit arrived well-packaged, containing all the components required for a complete hardwire installation. A notable advantage noted during unboxing was the inclusion of multiple fuse tap pairs. This detail dramatically simplifies connecting to a vehicle’s fuse box, eliminating the need for potentially damaging wire stripping or cutting, and providing options for both constant battery power and accessory (ACC) power. Once powered, routing the cable to the primary and external rear cameras proved straightforward.
The triple-camera system installation is designed for ease of use, with Vantrue providing obvious adhesive stickers to ensure a secure fit on the windshield. Before mounting, the included circular polarizing filter was easily attached to the primary camera, a feature designed to reduce glare and improve image clarity. Camera positioning is further simplified by a ball mount offering a full range of rotation. However, caution is advised when adjusting the rear camera, as the tension screws are prone to stripping if overtightened. The provided cabling proved ample for connecting the cameras, and the test vehicle’s existing wire access points facilitated a clean exterior installation.Initial system boot-up was quick, and the camera connected to the Vantrue app via WiFi without issue.
WiFi Connectivity: A Major Weakness
Despite a seamless initial connection, the WiFi performance of the N4 Pro S proved disappointing. While the camera supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi networks, the 2.4 GHz connection was described as “painfully slow and often freezes.” Although the dashcam’s built-in display and 5 GHz support mitigate this issue to some extent, the WiFi functionality is largely unusable for remote viewing.
This limitation is especially noteworthy given the increasing demand for remote access to dashcam footage. While the N4 Pro S excels in ease of installation and hardware components, the subpar WiFi performance represents a significant drawback for users prioritizing remote monitoring capabilities.
