Vardan Ishkhani Militosyan, master of sports of weightlifting of the USSR, honored coach, died on the night of April 29 after a serious illness. We learn about this from the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia.

Vardan Militosyan was born on July 8, 1950 in Gyumri. He served in the Soviet Army, graduated from Gyumri M. State Pedagogical Institute named after Nalbandian.

During his military service, Vardan Militosyan trained from 1964 under the leadership of the famous USSR weightlifter and trainer Hakob Farajyan. He has won impressive victories in the most prestigious international tournaments. The leader of the 75 kg weight category of the USSR team became a two-time European champion, a silver medalist of the Olympic Games (1976), a five-time world record holder, and won dozens of victories in all-Union championships and international tournaments. Thanks to him, the rise of weightlifting has resumed in Armenia.

After saying goodbye to sports, in 1980, Vardan Militosyan joined the ranks of the coaches of the specialized weightlifting sports school in his hometown, and in 1996, he became the director. He also followed his nephew Israel Militosyan, who became a multiple world and European champion, a gold and silver medalist at the Olympic Games.

The National Olympic Committee of Armenia expressed its condolences to the deceased’s family, relatives, a large army of sports fans and friends who admired his skills.

The memory of Vardan Militosyan will always be vivid. His name is written in golden letters in the history of domestic and world sports.
