Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader VD Satheesan has demanded a judicial inquiry into the appointment of a Vice Chancellor who violated the rules and regulations and violated UGC norms. All alleged appointments should be canceled. The Opposition had earlier pointed out that the re-appointment of Kannur VC was illegal. The governor’s action in approving the government’s proposal is also illegal. The governor is still glad he realized the mistake. The action of the search committee which gave a single name instead of a panel for the appointment of Kalady VC is completely wrong. If the governor agrees that one name is enough, there is no justification for that either.

The dispute between the Governor and the Chief Minister is not a matter for the Opposition. There are special people in Delhi to settle these disputes. There have been similar compromises in the past. However, the Opposition is taking the issue of university autonomy and backdoor appointments very seriously. Major posts are reserved for parties. The opposition will take legal action in this regard.

It is not clear who the Chief Minister told at the press conference that he thinks nothing should happen here. The Chief Minister will not tolerate even a single criticism. Pinarayi Vijayan is following the example of Narendra Modi who makes his critics traitors. “This is the general nature of dictatorships,” he said.

At the same time, there is a situation in the state where the Chief Minister has come face to face with the Chief Minister publicly responding to the publicity campaign launched by the Governor with a letter of resignation from the post of Chancellor. The war escalated after the Chief Minister came to the scene yesterday afternoon with serious allegations of external interference in rejecting the decisions taken by the Governor. Chief Minister Pinarayi is questioning the credibility of the Governor on the suspicion of external interference. Governor Arif Khan, who has denied allegations of outside interference, has stepped up his criticism of the government. The question now in the public mind is how the extraordinary confrontation between the head of government and the head of government can end.
