On February 21, Vladimir Putin in Moscow signed an agreement on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the heads of the DPR and LPR, which, among other things, involves cooperation in the field of defense. The next day, the State Duma and the Federation Council unanimously ratified these documents. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the decision to recognize the sovereignty of the DPR and LPR an encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Western countries condemned Russia’s recognition of the DPR and LPR and the introduction of Russian troops there and decided to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation.

US President Joe Biden said that “Russia will pay an even higher price if it continues its aggression, including additional sanctions.” Against the backdrop of the words of the American president, the Russian ruble rose sharply against the dollar and the euro and continued to grow, follows from the dynamics of trading on the Moscow Exchange.
