Veidekke Wins Contract for Landmark Psychiatric Hospital in Oslo
Oslo, Norway – construction firm Veidekke has secured a contract wiht Helse Sør-Øst RHF to build PHA South, a new psychiatric building at the New Aker hospital in Oslo, Norway. The project represents a significant investment in mental health infrastructure within the region.

Veidekke’s involvement specifically centers on PHA South, which is slated to be the largest of three buildings dedicated to mental health and addiction treatment at the New Aker Hospital. The facility will span 27,000 square meters and feature 164 inpatient treatment beds, a dedicated psychiatric emergency department, offices, outpatient treatment rooms, cutting-edge research facilities, and versatile meeting rooms.
Beyond traditional clinical spaces, the design incorporates a strong emphasis on patient well-being through the inclusion of restorative activity areas. These include rooftop gardens, inviting atriums, accessible outdoor spaces, a dedicated park area, and a fully-equipped gym.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin in mid-2027, with project completion anticipated by late 2030. The contract’s value will be formally added to Veidekke’s order backlog upon the start of construction.
