Blood Donation Drive Sees Surge in New Donors, Promising Future for 2025 Collections

A recent blood donation drive in Vicoise resulted in a meaningful increase in both participation and new donors, signaling a positive trend for blood supplies heading into 2025.The accomplished event, spearheaded by the local Blood Donation section, saw a total of 122 units of blood collected from 135 individuals, with a notable 12 first-time donors joining the registry.
Strong Turnout and Positive Results
The two-day collection event, held on Thursday and Friday, drew a robust response from the community. On Thursday, 74 people presented to donate, with 66 ultimately eligible to give blood, including 7 new donors. Friday saw 61 attendees, resulting in 56 donations and an additional 5 first-time donors.
“This is a very positive outcome for the last 2025 collection,” a senior official stated. “The sponsorship of the Vicoise associations seems to have borne fruit.” The official expressed hope that the momentum generated by returning donors and the influx of new participants will continue during future drives.
Intergenerational Giving Inspires New Donors
The drive highlighted the powerful influence of family in encouraging blood donation. Several new donors were inspired to participate by their mothers, who are regular contributors. Élise Guttériez, an 18-year-old nursing school student, shared her motivation: “I came because my mother, Virginie, gives blood regularly! Everything whent very well, I didn’t feel anything!”
Similarly, Fanny, an 18-year-old BTS student, followed in the footsteps of her mother, Marie-Laure, who has been donating blood sence she turned 18. Both young women expressed their commitment to becoming regular donors.
