Victor Wembanyama Scores 52 Points in Spurs Win Over Mavericks

It’s just figuring things out, Victor Wembanyama said after putting up 52 points, 24 rebounds, and eight blocks in the San Antonio Spurs’ 112-111 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The performance set new career highs for the center and moved him into rare historical company.

Wembanyama Joins Statistical Elite

Wembanyama became the first player with at least 50 points and 20 rebounds in a one-point win since Wilt Chamberlain in 1964. He joins Chamberlain and Bob McAdoo as the only three players in NBA history to record a 50-20-5 line, with McAdoo being the last to achieve the feat in 1974.

His eight blocks were the most in a 50-plus-point performance since blocks became an official statistic in the 1973-74 season. The center went 16 of 28 from the field and converted 19 of his 23 free-throw attempts.

Wembanyama has recorded 58 five-block outings since his debut in 2023-24, nearly triple the total of Myles Turner, who ranks second in that span.

Overcoming Illness and Physical Toll

I haven’t been feeling great lately. I’ve been sick. Today felt like I was getting my legs back. It should be more like this more often, Wembanyama explained after the game. From October 24 through Wednesday, he averaged 32.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 4.7 blocks while shooting 53.2 percent.

San Antonio led by 17 points at halftime and by as many as 19 in the third quarter before Dallas rallied to take a three-point lead in the fourth period. Wembanyama briefly exited the game following an apparent ankle injury.

He returned to help the Spurs maintain their composure. In the final seconds, Wembanyama made the free throw that served as the winning point, while Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving missed a contested, 15-foot turnaround jumper just before the buzzer.

Spurs Improve Record with Balanced Roster Contributions

The win improved the Spurs to a 6-2 record, tied for fourth-best in the Western Conference. Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said, I think we’re starting to finally play the brand of basketball that we know how and how we should play.

Teammate Dylan Harper, who contributed 21 points, said: Dominant. When he gets in the vicinity of the paint, he’s just unstoppable to guard. So, I mean, we just gotta keep on finding ways to get him down there and then let him operate. Stephon Castle also provided support for San Antonio, logging 17 points and 10 rebounds.

For the Mavericks, who fell to 4-4, Naji Marshall scored 22 points, and Cooper Flagg added 19 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Mavericks coach Dusty May utilized a defensive scheme that relied on P.J. Washington to guard Wembanyama while keeping big men like Daniel Gafford and Morez Johnson Jr. focused on other Spurs players.

League-Wide Recognition

Shaquille O’Neal, who recorded his own 61-point, 23-rebound game against the Clippers in 2000, compared Wembanyama’s mentality to the late Kobe Bryant. O’Neal noted that Wembanyama’s drive to overwhelm the opponent mirrored the approach he witnessed during his time with the Lakers.

Wembanyama was selected as the Western Conference Player of the Week for the season’s second week. I hope so, Wembanyama said when asked if he was starting another player of the week run. The goal is to get it every week.
