An advertising campaign that is surprising to say the least. The National Gendarmerie has just released a promotional video on its social networks with the aim of attracting new recruits.

If so far nothing seems abnormal, the institution which is struggling to recruit is trying to seduce the youngest in an unusual way after posting a video clip of around forty seconds online, using the codes of the famous game of Call of Duty war, whose latest opus “Modern Warfare III” was released on November 10.

In this video, four gendarmes are presented to present the positions to be filled in the army forces. Defender, investigator, observer… the soldiers appear in turn on the screen in different outfits, in reference to the numerous skins (Editor’s note, graphic skins of video game characters) offered in Call of Duty.

On “Warzone.”

“Gendarmerie Pack soon available”

As in the game of the famous franchise, we see a menu in which we can choose our operator, unlock skins or even modify our weapons, even going so far as to create a “GNIII” logo (National Gendarmerie 3) , in reference to that of MWIII (Modern Warfare III). The National Gendarmerie goes even further by indicating at the end of the sequence that a “Gendarmerie Pack” will soon be available.

While it is impossible to deny that this staging is well imitated, this video published on X is far from unanimously appreciated by Internet users. Indeed, for many of them, the fact that the police use video games to encourage young people to join their ranks is problematic.

On X, some Internet users do not fail to point out that it is awkward to compare the real world and the virtual world, or even the sentence pronounced by Emmanuel Macron during the riots which followed the death of Nahel by a police officer. “We have the feeling that some (rioters) are living in the street the video games that have intoxicated them,” he declared.

Although criticized, this communication strategy of the armed forces may seem to be paying off given the 2.7 million views that the video has accumulated on social networks this Tuesday morning.
