The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Martin Menem, spoke in view of the treatment of the Bases Law in the Chamber of Deputies, a session that will take place next Monday, April 29 after the initiative promoted by Javier Milei’s government managed to obtain a majority opinion in committee. In dialogue with Eduardo Feinmann on LN+, Menem outlined “expectation” Regarding the debate on the project, he said that they hope “with desire” the half sanction and explained the reasons why, from La Libertad Avanza (LLA) They agreed to reduce the number of articles of the labor reform, a proposal that generated disagreements between the ruling party and the opposition.
“Since December 10, we have worked to reach agreements and join forces. Today we started the day very early and managed to obtain a majority opinion on the Base Law and the fiscal package, initiatives for which we have called a special session for Monday, April 29. We are looking forward to it,” the head of the lower house summarized first. He then highlighted that the intention of the Milei administration was to “build a large dialogue table” that will lead to “a significant majority to be able to give half a sanction to the two packages and, above all, to the Base Law.”
It is with that mentality, explains Menem, that they decided to reduce the articles of the labor modernization program from 70 to 15.. “It has been a little shorter. But what we have sought throughout this period is to prioritize the agreement of wills and the votes that we may have in the affirmative. We want a labor reform but, for that to happen, we first need to have 129 votes to advance with the omnibus law. We have prioritized article by article, both of the Base Law and the fiscal package, to be able to go down to the premises with a very important degree of certainty.”
During the interview, Menem boasted of having had the opportunity to see each of the legislators “face to face,” to discuss the sections that they were going to support and what they were not, “and from there, build the majority that we believe.” “It will be imposed starting next week.” “It’s not easy but we’re fine”, complete. He also gave details about the amount of “will” that the Government garnered in recent months and would allow it to pass the project without problems: “In some we have greater acceptance, in others a little less. We always talk about being above 130 wills.”
Finally, the nephew of the late former president Carlos Saúl Menem offered details of the Monday morning session. “It will start at 11. Its start can take a maximum of one or two hours. We will try to start on Monday and finish before May 1st. It is Labor Day and many legislators have to return to their provinces for various reasons such as political events or meetings with their governors. Unfortunately there will be no time to rest. The idea is, as soon as possible, that Argentines begin to experience a different Argentina. And we are going to work intensely so that on Monday there is a half sanction.”
