McDonald’s opened its very first restaurant dedicated to frozen drinks and breakfast snacks on Thursday: CosMc’s. This first restaurant opened in Bolingbrook, Illinois, about 30 miles west of Chicago, as a limited trial. McDonald’s aims to open around ten pilot stores by the end of 2024.
Inspired by McDonald’s extraterrestrial character, CosMc, who appeared in a series of commercials in the 1980s and 1990s, these restaurants could allow McDonald’s to capitalize on the growing popularity of mixed cold drinks in the United States, a trend that has boosted sales of coffee giant Starbucks. CosMc’s will also offer some popular McDonald’s menu items, such as the McMuffin, as well as new sandwiches and snacks.
