Surreal scene at the Auckland Zoo (New Zealand) this Wednesday, April 19. A man was arrested after breaking into the rhinoceros and antelope enclosure… to bathe there. The visitor first climbed the barriers, in complete relaxation, before diving into the moat, wearing a simple undershirt. The individual was also filmed doing the plank in the water, washing his face and hair. During this time, fortunately for him, the rhinoceroses stayed behind… visibly surprised by the strange behavior of this intruder.
According to zookeepers, the swimmer, unaware of the danger, remained in the water for several minutes before returning to the space dedicated to visitors. He was then handed over to the police and taken into custody. Zoo director Kevin Buley said he was “relieved” that no visitors or animals were injured. “We hope that the man involved will receive the help and support that he clearly needs,” he added.
