VIDEO. Traffic jams, high costs… Are Elon Musk’s anti-traffic tunnels going to the big flop?

by time news

This is one of Elon Musk’s craziest and most futuristic projects: a system of tunnels operating completely autonomously. This automated underground network should relieve congestion in towns and connect their two extremities in record time.

It was The Boring Company, Elon Musk’s company with the ambition to rethink traffic in the city, which imagined this anti-traffic system. In the city of Las Vegas, which suffers from traffic congestion, the project started in 2019. 55 stations should see the light of day.

At CES in Las Vegas, the biggest annual technology show, journalists were invited to test one of these stations. These first experiments were an opportunity to discover that… The tunnels saturate faster than expected. Lack of parking spaces at the exit, narrow infrastructure, extremely high construction cost: Musk’s vision is far from reality, and for different reasons.
