Interpol’s highest governing body, the General Assembly is the world’s largest gathering of law enforcement leaders. It brings together police chiefs and senior officials representing the 195 member countries of the Organization, and is an opportunity for member countries to build relationships and share experiences.
Each year, the General Assembly examines global crime trends and security threats.
This year, today’s critical global threats, including transnational organized crime and environmental crime, as well as the use of emerging technologies by law enforcement are on the agenda.
This 91st session, which continues until December 1, closes a year of celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the creation, in Vienna, of the International Criminal Police Commission, which became Interpol in 1956.
Responsible for electing the members of the Executive Committee (the governing body which sets the direction of the Organization between sessions), the Assembly makes all important decisions affecting general policy, the resources necessary for international cooperation, working methods, finances and activity programs.
Interpol is an intergovernmental organization whose aim is to promote international police cooperation. It manages global databases containing police information relating to criminals and offences, provides operational and forensic support, provides analytical services and organizes training.
These policing capabilities are made available around the world and support four global programs on financial crime and corruption, counter-terrorism, cybercrime, and organized and new forms of crime.
