Vinícius Júnior Reaffirms Commitment to Real Madrid Amid Fan Criticism and Contract Uncertainty

Despite a challenging year and ongoing contract negotiations, Vinícius Júnior has publicly stated his desire to remain with Real Madrid beyond 2027.
The Brazilian forward, who recently silenced doubters with a stellar performance in Tuesday’s 6-1 Champions League rout of Monaco – where he both scored and assisted three goals – acknowledged a difficult period but emphasized his dedication to the club. “The fans demand a lot from the players, and I have to be at my best all the time,” Vinícius told TNT Brasil. “My last year has been difficult; I haven’t been able to play the way I want,but it’s always important to keep going… I’m human too. I get upset by what people say, but every two or three days, we have the opportunity to prove ourselves.”
The club has faced important upheaval in recent weeks.A loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final marked the end of Xabi Alonso’s tenure as coach, followed by a surprising elimination from the Copa del Rey at the hands of second-tier Albacete, now under the leadership of Álvaro Arbeloa. Vinícius underscored the importance of Tuesday’s Champions League victory in light of these setbacks. “[This performance] means a lot,” he stated, referencing “the change of coach, losing the final [of the Spanish Super Cup], being knocked out of the Copa del Rey.”
The pressure at the world’s biggest club is immense, Vinícius admitted. “Playing for the biggest club in the world, the demands are very high. Sometimes we don’t understand [the booing], but we know the size of the team, the players we have here.” He acknowledged the fans’ right to express their dissatisfaction, stating, “They have their right, they pay a lot for a ticket,” but also confessed to feeling hurt by the criticism. “In the last few games I didn’t feel comfortable as every time I went out, I did something wrong and the fans booed me.”
Addressing Criticism and Alonso’s Departure
Some supporters have even suggested Vinícius played a role in Alonso’s dismissal, citing disagreements during the coach’s eight-month stint. Though, the player vehemently denied any duty. “I have nothing to do with it [Alonso’s dismissal]… I can’t do anything about it. The only thing I can do on the field is go in and give my all. I won’t always be at my best technically, but I’ve always given my all for the team and done everything to make everyone feel comfortable.”
Despite the recent turbulence, Vinícius remains optimistic about his future at the Santiago Bernabéu. He dismissed concerns about his contract, wich is set to expire in 2027, emphasizing his trust in club president Florentino Perez.”I want to stay here for a long time,” he affirmed. “There’s also a lot of talk about my contract renewal because I have another year left. We’re very relaxed about it. I trust the [real Madrid] president [Florentino Perez], and he trusts me. We have a very good relationship, and we’ll sort things out at the right time. We’re in no hurry to do that.”
Negotiations regarding an extension have reportedly stalled, with sources indicating they may not resume until after the 2026 World Cup. Though,Vinícius’s recent performance and unwavering commitment suggest a long and successful future for the Brazilian star in Madrid.
