While only Pas-de-Calais is currently on orange flood alert, Météo-France will place, on Saturday November 4 in the evening, ten additional departments at this alert level as the storm Domingos approaches. The event will cause “violent gusts of wind” on the Atlantic coast, announced the meteorologists in their latest bulletintwo days after the passage of storm Ciaran over France, which claimed the lives of three people in France.

Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Charente-Maritime, Charente and Gironde will go into orange wind vigilance from 6 p.m. Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Bouches-du-Rhône and Var will also be placed on alert for wave-submersion at the same time. Corsica-du-Sud and Haute-Corse will go into rain-flood alert at 7 p.m.

“Inland, wind gusts occasionally exceed 100 kilometers per hour [km/h] may affect neighboring departments of those placed on orange wind vigilance. (…) They could particularly concern Loire-Atlantique, Limousin, then reach the Center and Auvergne”explained the meteorological institute in its bulletin, calling for ” prudence “. On Saturday morning, Domingos was located “off the coast of Ireland”according to Météo-France.

Rain and wind

The south, east and southeast of Reunion Island were also placed on orange alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms, meteorologists reported. The prefect of the overseas department invited Saturday morning on (formerly Twitter) residents to “continue to follow safety instructions”.

Saturday will generally be marked by a rainy and windy spell in France. The meteorological institute predicts further strengthening of the wind along the Atlantic coast between the south of Brittany and the north of Aquitaine at the end of the day.

In the morning, rainy weather will settle in from the north to Aquitaine as far as the Northern Alps, accompanied by gusts often between 70 and 90 km/h inland over a good northern half, up to 100 to 120 km/h on the terrain of the Pyrenees.

In the afternoon, the rains will continue from the Pyrenees to the eastern borders, with southerly winds up to 70 to 90 km/h from Auvergne Rhône-Alpes to the North-East. Around the Mediterranean, the showers will be light, except in the east of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and Corsica, where rainy activity will increase in the late afternoon and evening. In the Alps, the rain-snow limit will rise above 2,000 meters.

In the north-west of the country, from Brittany and Hauts-de-France to Poitou-Charentes, widespread rain will give way from the morning to numerous showers and some brief clearings, but the wind will remain quite strong with peaks between 60 and 80 km/h inland, 80 to 100 km/h on the coasts. From mid-afternoon on the coast of southern Brittany, the Pays de Loire then as far as the Charentes and the north of Aquitaine, the southwest wind will strengthen significantly, the gusts will reach 100 to 130 km/h on the coasts, then inland gusts can reach 100 to 120 km/h in the evening.
