George Washington University professor, virologist Konstantin Chumakov, said that when infected with the Omicron strain of coronavirus, the disease proceeds more easily than in the case of the delta variant.
“The disease is now proceeding in a rather mild form,” the scientist said on the air of Radio Russia. “And the mortality rate has decreased significantly.”
Chumakov noted that the virus has changed. For example, young people who tolerate the disease more easily began to become infected. Also, the virus began to affect the upper respiratory tract more, without progressing to pneumonia. The virologist noted that in the case of Omicron, most people experience symptoms “from one day to three to five.” The main symptoms, he says, are a runny nose, nasal irritation, coughing, headache, and loss of smell is rare.
