It has been reported that O. Panneerselvam has expressed his desire to reinstate VK Sasikala in the AIADMK.

The late former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and AIADMK General Secretary Ms. J. Jayalalithaa passed away on December 5, 2016 at a private hospital in Chennai due to ill health. After his demise, the AIADMK split into two factions. Orani was formed under the leadership of Sasikala and Orani under the leadership of O. Panneerselvam. Edappadi K. Palanisamy, who was in the Sasikala team, became the Chief Minister. Following this, O. Panneerselvam accused Jayalalithaa of having a mystery in her death.

After Sasikala went to jail in a case of amassing wealth, O. Panneerselvam agreed to the merger of the teams to ensure that the then Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy expelled him from the party and set up a commission to inquire into Jayalalithaa’s death. Following this, a commission of inquiry was set up headed by retired Judge Arumugasami. The Commission has concluded its investigation into various parties.

AIADMK co-ordinator O. Panneerselvam testified before the Arumugasami Commission of Inquiry over the past two days in connection with Jayalalithaa’s death. To the various questions asked in it, he replied “I know nothing”. However, he also confessed that he only knew Jayalalithaa’s fingerprints on the by-election-related forms. He also said that Sasikala and his family had not hatched any conspiracy against Jayalalithaa.

Following this, O. Panneerselvam told reporters that he had told the Commission of Inquiry what he knew about the questions asked, that he had faith in the Commission of Inquiry and that he had always had personal respect and admiration for Chinnamma (VK Sasikala).

O. Panneerselvam was the first to call for a commission of inquiry into Jayalalithaa’s death, claiming that it was a mystery. He also urged Sasikala and his family to investigate. Political critics say that O. Panneerselvam, who used to call himself Sasikala when the Dharma War broke out, has now surrendered as Chinnamma.

O. Panneerselvam has said that Jayalalithaa’s death has nothing to do with Sasikala and AIADMK co-coordinator Edappadi K. Palanisamy has been shocked. Political critics have said that O. Panneer Selvam has surrendered to re-add VK Sasikala to the AIADMK.
