Elon Musk’s SpaceX Corporation, which operates Starlink, cannot guarantee that the service will not work in places where the service is not officially launched. This was reported by The Register, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.
Media journalists noticed that in April, SpaceX sent messages to users in Africa, warning them that Starlink satellite Internet could not be used in countries where the service had not been officially launched. According to experts, however, the company’s engineers cannot accurately track the geoposition of the terminals and block them.
In its message, SpaceX demanded to stop using Starlink outside of authorized zones until April 30. However, it turns out that African consumers continue to use Starlink in May. Thus, security vulnerabilities discovered by enthusiasts provide access to satellite Internet literally all over the world.
