Waidhofen an der Ybbs welcomed families to a vibrant Kinderfasching (children’s carnival) on Sunday, offering a welcome escape from the winter chill. The event, hosted by the Kinderfreunde Waidhofen, transformed the local Sporthalle into a lively hub of costumes, games, and treats, drawing a large crowd eager to celebrate the traditional pre-Lenten festivities. The annual Kinderfasching in Waidhofen/Ybbs is a beloved tradition, providing a safe and joyful environment for children to experience the magic of Fasching.
The Kinderfreunde Waidhofen meticulously planned the afternoon, creating a program brimming with creative activities. A popular attraction was the Feuerwehr-Hüpfburg (fire department bouncy castle), where children could expend energy, and a large dart game provided further entertainment. The Glückshafen (lucky harbor) ensured every child received a prize, while the Krapfenparade (doughnut parade) offered a sweet treat to all attendees. The event showcased the dedication of the Kinderfreunde in fostering a sense of community and providing memorable experiences for local families.
A Colorful Display of Costumes
The Sporthalle was awash in a delightful array of costumes, with children embracing the spirit of Fasching. Among the attendees, Carina, Romy, and Marlena Teufel stood out dressed as “dangerous wild cats,” as captured in a photo by Christa Hochpöchler. Other children arrived costumed as characters from popular stories, including bees, wizards from Hogwarts, and iconic comic book heroes like Asterix, and Spiderman. The variety of costumes added to the festive atmosphere, demonstrating the creativity and imagination of the young participants.

Community Effort and Dedicated Volunteers
The success of the Kinderfasching was largely due to the efforts of the Kinderfreunde Waidhofen team, led by Obmann (Chairman) Thomas Gattringer. Gattringer, along with volunteers Jonas Amenitsch, Niklas Tiefenböck, and Gabi Weber, ensured the smooth running of the event and personally distributed sweet treats to the children. Julia Freunthaler, Kurt Freunthaler, and Jürgen Sonneck were responsible for providing creatively designed balloons, adding to the colorful decorations. Barbara Moser, Nina Atzenhofer, and Barbara Farfeleder, along with Valerie Moser, Benedikt Brandner, Marianna Atanassov, and Severin Farfeleder, assisted with the balloon distribution, creating a joyful experience for the children. Michael Höritzauer, Claudia Bischof, Gregor Baumgarten, and Gregor Schmidt entertained the crowd with a lively performance of Mexican Samba.
More Than Just Games: A Celebration of Childhood
The Kinderfasching wasn’t simply about games and treats. it was a celebration of childhood and community spirit. The event provided a space for families to connect, children to socialize, and everyone to enjoy a carefree afternoon. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and excitement, creating lasting memories for all involved. The dedication of the Kinderfreunde Waidhofen in organizing such events underscores their commitment to enriching the lives of children in the region.
