The ‘Walton Open 12th National Services (Men & Women) Wrestling Competition-2024’ organized under the auspices of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC and managed by Bangladesh Amateur Wrestling Federation concluded today on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force emerged champions in both categories of the three-day competition held at the Sheikh Russell Roller Skating Complex. They won a total of 10 medals including 5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze in the 10 weight categories of the men’s category. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) won 10 medals including 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze. And Bangladesh Army came third by winning a total of 09 medals including 2 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze.
Meanwhile, Ansar won a total of 10 medals including 7 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze from 10 weight categories of the women’s category. And the runner-up Bangladesh Army got a total of 8 medals including 2 gold and 6 silver. Bangladesh Police who came third got a total of 5 medals including 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.
Bangladesh Army’s Jewel (74 kg weight category) was selected as the best player in the men’s category. Rozina (76 kg weight category) of Bangladesh Ansar team was selected as the best player in the women’s category.
Trophies are awarded to the champions, runners-up and third-placed teams in both categories of the tournament. Both the best players get a cash prize of 5 thousand rupees. Apart from this, all the players who won medals in the competition were given a home appliance prize by Walton.
At the end of the competition, Walton’s senior executive director F.M. was present as the chief guest and distributed the prizes. Iqbal Bin Anwar (Don). Senior Deputy Executive Director of Walton’s Marketing and Communication Department Rabiul Islam Milton and Senior Deputy Operative Director Mehrab Hossain Asif Mehrab Hossain Asif were present as special guests.
Federation Vice President MA Quddus Khan, General Secretary Tabiur Rahman Palawan, Joint General Secretary Ashiqur Rahman Bachchu and Mesbah Uddin Azad and other officials were also present at this time.
150 female and male wrestlers from Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Titas Gas participated in this competition. Competitions are held in total 20 weight classes, 10 each in both male and female categories. Men’s weight categories were – 57 kg, 61 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 79 kg, 86 kg, 92 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg. Women’s weight categories were – 50 kg, 53 kg, 55 kg, 57 kg, 59 kg, 62 kg, 65 kg, 68 kg, 72 kg and 76 kg.
