Waqf appointment: League and government face to face; Assurance that the strike will continue | Waqaf Board

by time news

Thiruvananthapuram: The protest against the transfer of the appointment of the Waqf Board to the PSC turned into a direct confrontation between the Muslim League and the government. With the League making it clear that the conference held in Kozhikode was just a declaration of strike, it was ensured that the agitation would intensify. At the same time, the government may not be ready for a quick compromise as it has also personally insulted Minister Mohammad Riyaz.

Abdurahman Kallayi, state secretary of the Muslim League, made controversial remarks about the marriage between Minister PA Mohammad Riyaz and Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter Veena at a Waqf protection rally in Kozhikode. Following this, Chief Minister Pinarayi attacked the League at the CPM Kannur District Conference. ‘You decide who you are first. Is the League a political party or a religious organization? ‘- Pinarayi asked.

The Chief Minister also said that the League should not take over the oppression of Muslims. Soon after, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan also sharply criticized the league. The DYFI alleged that the speech, which insulted Minister Riyaz and his wife Veena, was vulgar and violated religious harmony.

League leader Abdurahman Kallai had expressed regret over the controversial remarks made after the civic controversy. Later, Panakkad Sadiqali Shihab, a member of the high authority committee of the Muslim League, also expressed his regret. Former Haritha office bearers also came out against the mention of Abdurahman Kallai.
