The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, stressed this Saturday that the Ukrainian military counteroffensive has achieved progress to “liberate” the territories occupied by Russian forces.
“The Ukrainian forces are advancing. Despite everything and whatever they say, we are advancing and that is the most important thing. We are advancing,” Zelenski said in his Telegram account.
Western experts have criticized the slow progress of the Ukrainian military counteroffensive despite the military support of the United States and its allies.
In response, Zelensky has argued that the Ukrainian military counterattack launched in June “is not a Hollywood movie” and has stressed that lives are at stake.
The ultimate goal is to regain control of the Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporiya and Jershon regions, as well as the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014.
