TRI-CITIES, Wash.-Washington residents enjoy the second safest working conditions in the country according to a recent study.

The Atticus law firm surveyed 1,000 employees and studied data from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well as the Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine the safest states for workers.

According to Atticus, Washington state has the fewest OSHA work-related deaths in the U.S., with zero deaths reported per 100,000 workers.

Workplace safety can vary by state based on multiple factors, including different laws or regulations, the application of those regulations, and the difference in industries from state to state.

Atticus found that transportation, moving, construction and manufacturing jobs had the highest number of injuries. Transportation accounted for 30 percent of all work-related deaths, while the most common non-fatal injuries were exposure to harmful substances or environments.
