Study shows that only seven symptoms are manifested in long covid patients for a year. Data from 52,461 patients at 122 healthcare facilities in the US were examined. 47 common symptoms of chronic covid were selected for the study.
Study participants were divided into three subgroups: people with Covid but no influenza or pneumonia, people with common respiratory infections but no Covid, and people without Covid or other respiratory infections.
By examining electronic medical records, the research team was able to easily collect data and identify symptoms. The study showed that only a few of the long-term symptoms of Covid-19 reported in other studies were those of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The seven symptoms of chronic covid are fast heartbeat, hair loss, fatigue, chest pain, difficulty breathing, arthritis and obesity.
The study, conducted by the Institute for Data Science and Informatics at the University of Missouri in the US, was published in the Open Forum Infectious Diseases journal.
