West Chester University’s Wells School of Music to host 104th Annual Holiday Program
A century-long tradition of musical excellence continues this December as West Chester University’s Wells School of Music presents its 104th annual Holiday Program on Saturday, December 6.Tickets are $15 and available for advance purchase at https://wcupatix.com/schoolofmusic.
The highly anticipated event, a cornerstone of the West Chester community for over 100 years, will take place at 3 p.m. in the 1,200-seat Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall within the Philips Memorial Building, located at 700 S. High Street. This year’s program promises an expanded and joyful celebration, showcasing both established favorites and exciting new collaborations.
The performance will feature a diverse array of student talent, encompassing hundreds of musicians from across the Wells School of Music. Ensembles slated to perform include the WCU Symphony Orchestra, Mastersingers, Criterions Jazz Ensemble, Concert Choir, Oriana, and the renowned Grand Chorus.The Grand Chorus will be featured prominently, appearing alongside both the Symphony Orchestra and the Pops Orchestra.
Attendees can anticipate a program filled with beloved winter-themed songs, such as “Winter Wonderland,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “Let It Snow.” These classic melodies will be interwoven with new arrangements, creating a festive and cheerful atmosphere.
A unique pre-concert experience will also be offered,providing audience members with the rare opportunity to hear the hall’s historic Skinner organ. Organist Sándor Kádár will deliver a spirited performance of carols and holiday improvisations, setting the stage for the main event.
The WCU Pops Orchestra, returning for its second year, is poised to energize the program once again. This year, they will collaborate with the Grand Chorus for the first time, culminating in a powerful and immersive finale designed to leave a lasting impression. “Each year,this concert is the one opportunity to see most of our Wells School of Music students onstage together,” stated a senior official associated with the program. “The WCU Pops Orchestra performed together for the first time last year, and the response was amazing. Bringing them together with the Grand Chorus for the finale takes that energy to an entirely new level.”
Adding to the program’s prestige, Vocal Performance major Julia Webster ’26 has been selected as this year’s student soloist, performing the traditional carol “O Holy night” after a rigorous selection process by a faculty panel.
Beyond the music, Asplundh Concert Hall will be transformed into a winter wonderland, adorned with lush greenery, seasonal lighting, and vibrant poinsettias, enhancing the spirit of this cherished West Chester University tradition.
