The trial of the artist Jack Woumpack was held this Tuesday, June 13 before the Court of First Instance of Coyah. If he admitted the facts for which he is being prosecuted and apologized, the prosecution still intends to seek his conviction, for having made abusive and discriminatory remarks against the Fulani community.

The artist, who had been in custody since his arrest on June 9, was brought yesterday Monday before the prosecution of the Coyah Court of First Instance. The latter decided to prosecute him following the procedure of flagrante delicto, before placing him under a warrant of committal in the prison of the said city located 50 km east of Conakry. At his appearance this Tuesday at the bar, the artist asked for forgiveness. Which doesn’t seem to make the emperor waver from the prosecution.

Almamy Sékou Camara, interim public prosecutor at the Coyah court of first instance: “I am delighted that he recognizes in front of everyone that he is not being wrongfully prosecuted. This is a first victory for the prosecution in its pursuit.

My mission is to ensure the strict application of the law to citizens and their property. The trial is due to continue next week. At this time, I will make my requisitions. The mere fact of acknowledging the act does not mean that the prosecutor must give up his prosecution or violate the law. There are penalties that are determined by law. We will ask that the court enters in sentencing. But being sovereign, he can decide otherwise. We can only demonstrate how the defendant’s remarks offended the sensitivities, not only of the Fulani community, but of the national community. We will require in this sense so that the law is applied in all its rigor. The president is free to assess our submissions and the defense arguments.

The defendant was referred yesterday Monday. He is no longer in the hands of the judicial police officers. He returns to the remand center until the next hearing. »
