This number is still lower than in 2019, the year before the coronavirus outbreak. This is evident from the thermometer sexual health.

Soa-consult

In 2021 there were a total of 138,436 STI Sexually Transmitted Diseases consultations at the CSGC Center Sexual Health. This was 30% more than in 2020, but still 8% lower than in 2019.

COVID-19

In 2020, there was less care available at the CSGs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, more people were again able to use care at a CSG than in 2020, but it was not yet at the level before the COVID pandemic. Because less care was available, proportionally more people were tested who were at high risk for STIs. For example, people with complaints or people who have a partner with an STD.

Positive result

The result was positive in 17.2% of the women who had themselves tested. For heterosexual men this was 22.6%. In STI consultations of men who have sex with men (MSM men who have sex with men), 23.5% were positive (participants in the PrEPpre-exposure prophylaxis pilot are not included in this).
This means that more than 1 in 6 women and 1 in 5 men who had themselves tested had an STD. The percentage of positive tests was lower than in 2020 but still higher than in 2019, especially among heterosexual men and MSM.

PrEP

In 2019, the national Pre-Exposition Prophylaxis (PrEP) pilot program was started at the CSGs. Since then, the CSGs have conducted considerably more PrEP consultations. People participating in the PrEP pilot visit the CSG every three months for a PrEP consultation. In 2021 40% of the consultations at MSM were a PrEP consultation. The result of the STI test was positive in 17.7% of these consultations. As of December 31, 2021, the PrEP pilot program had an estimated 7,693 participants.
