We cannot force Armenia to do what they have committed to. Elchin Amirbekov, representative of the special assignments of the President of Azerbaijan, said in an interview to the Guardian, referring to the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace negotiations, the connection with Nakhichevan and the launch of the middle corridor.
In particular, he said: “The connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan is of crucial importance for us not only from the point of view of national security, but also from the point of view of providing an alternative route for the Middle Corridor. We can’t waste any more time. Three years later, Armenia did not even start the feasibility study of the 42-kilometer section. Of course, we cannot force Armenia to do what they have undertaken, and it is pointless to assume that we are going to invade to force that corridor or something like that. So, as a plan B, we turned to Iran to build a road and rail connection through its territory.”
