The crown of the Formula 1 appears on the horizon and everyone intends to conquer it in the 2024 season. Along this path, the teams draw up their strategies and bet heavily on the evolution of their cars. That’s why, Mercedes surprised with the presentation of his W15which will be the machine that will have Lewis Hamilton at the head of the team, in the British driver’s last dance with this team before emigrating to Ferrari. He made his debut on the track at the short international version of the Silverstone circuit, where Hamilton and his teammate, George Russell, they alternated in a brief shakedown about 15 kilometers.
Aesthetically, the W15 recovers the color of the “silver arrows” on the front and the cockpit, which is combined with the Petronas aqua green and which remains black in the rest of the car, for weight saving reasons.
Furthermore, with James Allison, who is the technical director of the Brackley team, he was in charge of supervising all the details that make this vehicle different in every way from the W14. Mercedes, like other teams, also tried to look for changes on the ground and emulate what Red Bull did.
“It is not just an aerodynamic change, but many mechanical changes were made to make a car faster and more predictable for the drivers. We will see in Bahrain if we have achieved it,” he said. This is Wolff, the head of the Mercedes team. And he continued: “We are completely changing the chassis layout, weight distribution and airflow. We are literally changing almost every component, because I think only then will we have a chance. As the saying goes: when it hurts, it sticks. “I think the previous two years were necessary for us to readjust, recalibrate and reinvent ourselves in certain areas.”

We tried to make a more predictable car. At the beginning of the curve, when you press the brakes and turn, the rear axle must be firm. And past the apex it has to be an easier car to turn. We work hard on that. We exploit the fit of the engine in the chassis, the geometry of the suspension with the gearbox and the parts that surround the driver inside the car.”
