French President Emmanuel Macron said he was outraged by yesterday’s killing of more than 100 Palestinians who had gathered waiting for humanitarian aid in Gaza and demanded “truth and justice” for the role of Israeli soldiers in the incident, Reuters reported.

Gaza health authorities said Israeli forces shot dead more than 100 Palestinians yesterday. Israel blamed the deaths on crowds surrounding aid trucks, saying victims were trampled or run over in the stampede.

“Deep indignation is rising at the photos coming out of Gaza in which civilians have been targeted by Israeli soldiers. I strongly condemn this attack and call for truth, justice and respect for international law,” Macron wrote in a post on the X social network.

He said it was imperative to bring an immediate truce to the war between Israel and the extremist Palestinian group Hamas.

Foreign Minister Stephane Sejournet told France Enter radio that Paris will support the UN’s call for an independent investigation, BTA reported.

“The humanitarian situation has been catastrophic for several weeks and what is happening is unjustified. Israel needs to hear it and stop it,” Sejourne said on France Enter.

“We have gone a step further, people are fighting for food and there are riots. I have heard the request of the UN Secretary General to open an independent investigation and I think France will support it,” Sejourne added.
