A review meeting on the ongoing Sirmigu town project in Vellore district was held today at the Vellore District Collectorate under the chairmanship of Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan. District Collector Kumaravel Pandian, legislators A.P. Nandakumar, Karthikeyan and officials were present.
At this meeting the Sirmigu city planning works are at any stage present. Minister Duraimurugan gave suggestions on how to complete it quickly. He later told reporters: “The Sirmigu city project work in Vellore should be completed by now. However, at present only 70 per cent of the work has been completed. Works are not possible because the contractors are not working properly.
L&T, the contractor, has sub-contracted with the government in violation of the agreement. Thus, not even a single street in Vellore Corporation is without mud and debris. Work has been done to dig the pit first, then pave the road and then dig again. Today we consulted on how to complete the tasks.
We are also going to go and inspect the streets in the Corporation area on the coming 12th. Action must be taken to pave the streets as before. The Kerala government had said that the Mullaiperiyaru dam could not hold 142 feet of water, but we have filled it with 142 feet. ”
