At the plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, referred to the forced deportation of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan’s military aggression.

“We witnessed another humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, which affects tens of thousands of people. That acute humanitarian crisis turned into a massive emigration of the Armenian population from the region. We must take all necessary measures to provide immediate humanitarian assistance and address the long-term problems of the ethnic Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh. At the same time, as a result of the events of last September, the growing and urgent needs of Armenia must receive a proper and adequate solution,” said the President of Cyprus.

He stated that Cyprus supports the peaceful process of the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan with the mediation of the EU, which will undoubtedly contribute to the long-term stability and development of the region.

“Any incentive to facilitate and encourage such development must be balanced and carefully planned and implemented,” he said.
