At the press conference after the 3-1 win against FC Copenhagen, Guardiola was asked about his criticism of the English league that he had expressed before the game. The former Bayern coach criticized the fact that his team had to play against Manchester United on Sunday.
“Are you talking to the Premier League? They would say: ‘We pay a lot of money, shut up!'” said the Spaniard.
After the 3-1 Manchester derby win over United, Guardiola made seven changes to his lineup against Copenhagen. The top game against Liverpool FC is already on Sunday.
However, the 53-year-old emphasized that he took the second leg against Copenhagen very seriously. “I needed fresh legs, I knew how tired my players were,” he explained: “I needed players who could hold out in a game like this.”
By progressing against Copenhagen, ManCity is in the quarter-finals of the premier class for the seventh time in a row. The opponent will be determined during the draw in Nyon on March 15th.
