April 29th – World Wish Day – is a milestone date for Make-A-Wish worldwide and the anniversary of the celebration of Chris’s 1st wish coming true 44 years ago, he became a police officer for a day.
Chris was a source of inspiration for the creation of the organization and this day, every year, is celebrated in 50 countries around the world in a special and spectacular way.
Make-A-Wish Greece, on the 29th of April, is organizing the established annual Walk for Wishes 2024, in many cities throughout Greece, and among them is Ioannina this year.
The walks will be in the evening, so that the Greek sky will be lit up, from end to end, in the blue color of Make-A-Wish with special lanterns and lighting, while the marches will be led by wish children and their families. These symbolic walks will honor the wish children, who fought a serious illness and got well, or who are still fighting, but also the memory of those who lit the way for Make-A-Wish.
In Ioannina, the walk will be held under the auspices of the Municipality of Ioannito and the City Hall will be illuminated, marking the end, while the progress of the walks will be broadcasted by RHYTHMO 94.9 from each city. Of course, there will also be the established illuminations by other Municipalities, in a symbolic gesture of support for the celebration of this important holiday. The appointment for the walk is at 8.15 on the evening of Holy Monday in Mavili square.
Participation in the walk is free. Those who wish, can get the special blue lantern and keep it during the walk. In Ioannina, lanterns are sold from the bookstores “Athanassopoulos” (Napoleontos Zerva & Pyrsinella), “Read a book” (Savva Nikolatou 57, Seismoplyta), “The Store” (Ethn. Antistaseos 150, Katsikas), “Margiolas” (Anexartisas 103) and “Kombos Gnosis” (Ioanninon 97, Anatoli).
