Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed today that the strikes on targets of the Lebanese Shiite movement “<a href="https://time.news/israel-has-no-intention-of-staying-permanently-in-gaza-says-defense-minister/" title="Israel has no intention of staying permanently in Gaza, says defense minister”>Hezbollah” in the neighboring country will continue, reported France Press.
He did this despite another UN call for a ceasefire in both Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
“Let me be clear: we will continue to strike mercilessly against Hezbollah in all parts of Lebanon, including (the capital) Beirut,” the Israeli prime minister said during a visit to a military base in the country hit yesterday by an airstrike sent by the Lebanese movement drone. Four Israeli soldiers were killed in the deadliest attack in Israel since the conflict escalated late last month.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, meanwhile, stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in both Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
“A ceasefire backed by a real peace process (…) is the only way to break the cycle of violence, hatred and misery,” Grandi said at the opening of the annual summit of his office today in Geneva. He warned of the danger of a wider regional conflict with global implications.
And today dozens of people were killed in Lebanon in new Israeli attacks. At least 21 people died in an airstrike on a residential building in the northern part of the country, writes BTA.
