## Météo France’s Radar in Martinique Back Online
On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Météo France announced on their Facebook page that their radar located at Diamant is once again operational. The rain monitoring instrument had been out of order for over a month due to “a hardware failure at the heart of the electronic system.”
This follows an earlier announcement on July 10, 2024, regarding the breakdown of a newly installed radar at Diamant. The device was rendered inoperable due to the same hardware failure. Technical teams were unable to resolve the issue, necessitating the intervention of the manufacturer.
We have excellent news for rain monitoring in Martinique! After a little more than a month of downtime, our weather radar at Diamant is once again operational. Thanks to the effective collaboration between the manufacturer and the Météo France teams, the situation has been resolved and the radar is now fully functional.

The weather radar allows for the visualization and estimation of rain intensities within clouds, enabling forecasters to track and locate rainfall. The device emits radio pulses and analyzes the reflected signal.
During the technical intervention, weather monitoring and surveillance of Martinique were ensured through the use of radars from Barbados and Guadeloupe, which cover the entire territory. Météo France assures that this redundancy ensures comprehensive coverage during the current cyclone season.
