After becoming Minister of Youth and Sports, Nazmul Hasan Papon has been holding a series of meetings with the federations. He sat in a meeting with Gymnastics, Chess, Kabaddi, Handball and Badminton Federations at the Secretariat on Tuesday (February 13). There he said that the federations that do well will be given priority.

At the end of the exchange meeting, the Youth and Sports Minister told the media, ‘Almost all the educational institutions of the country have sports fields. In our time there was regular sports practice. If we talk about chess or athletics, it has the most opportunities to practice or develop at the school level. Those who did well from here, they would later cross the district, division and get the opportunity to play at the national level. But nowadays the practice of playing among the students has decreased. Due to this, good players are not emerging at the national level. Students should be given opportunities to practice more sports in addition to their studies.

The minister said, “All sports are important. But we will prioritize based on performance and potential. Then I will set a specific plan and target. We will also sit with the honorable Prime Minister for the development of sports.’

Papon said that he will also sit with various corporate bodies regarding the acquisition and growth of sponsors to promote sports. Also try to know the actual situation by visiting the various sports federations.

Badminton Federation President Dr. Abdul Malek, Chess Federation President and former IGP Dr. Benazir Ahmed, Gymnastics Federation Chief Sheikh Bashir Al Mamun, Handball Federation President AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul and Kabaddi Federation General Secretary and Dhaka Metropolitan Commissioner Habibur Rahman were present in this meeting.
