Director Tom Buhrow was actually supposed to be in charge of WDR until the end of 2025. Now the former “Tagesthemen” presenter has announced that he will vacate his post at the end of 2024, a year earlier. The reason given is that he wants to “enable a smooth transition”.

WDR director Tom Buhrow is not seeking a third term in office and is quitting early. The 65-year-old will hand over the management at the end of 2024, the public broadcaster announced on Tuesday in Cologne. Buhrow has been director of the largest ARD station, Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), since summer 2013. Before that, he was already known to millions as the ARD “Tagesthemen” presenter.

According to WDR, his second term as station director began in July 2019 and actually lasts until the end of June 2025. Buhrow is ending half a year earlier.
