What are you watching tonight: the funniest rapper on the screen

by time news

About three years ago, when the series “Dave” was announced, we felt that something already familiar to us was about to come – hey, are you trying to sell us a series about the rise of a young rapper in the Atlanta scene on the FX network? There is already one “Atlanta”, and it includes Donald Glover. But from the moment “Dave” went on the air, it became clear as day that, despite the parallel storyline, this is not the white “Atlanta”, but a completely original series, with a surprising spirit, to say the least.

“Dave” quickly turned out to be one of the most entertaining series on television, as light and goofy as the person at the head of it – a rapper who calls himself “Lil Dicky” and makes songs about funny everyday topics and music videos with lots of guest appearances for some reason. She presented with extraordinary narrative skill the stupidity of the rap world, all the more so of a Jewish rapper who was not really perceived as a rapper by the rest, and also managed to touch here and there on serious issues such as mental health. In its second season, it has already wandered into realms of strangeness and hallucinations the likes of which we have not seen on screen, including a completely homoerotic episode and a brilliant trip with Rick Robin.

Now the third and much-anticipated season is coming, in which Dicky goes on a concert tour across America (along with the whole gang, love to Gaeta). The first two episodes aired a few days ago on the FX network (and went up to yes today) show that Dickie’s madness is going to travel in unfamiliar corners, and as we know this cute idiot, the trip will also be a trip into the recesses of his embarrassing mind. Expect surprises, because with him there always are.

“Dave”, season 3, on Hulu, on Yes and in the future also on Disney+
