Berlin – More and more banks and savings banks are demanding a fee from their customers when they park large amounts in their accounts: commonly known as negative interest or penalty interest, the correct term is custody fee. But no matter what you call it: For some bank customers, services are becoming increasingly expensive. In the meantime, not only accounts with sums of 100,000 euros are affected, but also those with significantly lower amounts. With some institutes, negative interest is due from 5000 euros or less. Banks and savings banks mainly introduce negative interest rates on call money accounts. In some cases, however, current and clearing accounts are also affected.
