An instructive story about a lost battle, in which hundreds of thousands of people came together – performed by the Telegram channel Letters to Daughter.

– Two and a half years after the assassination of Caesar, the armies of the Caesarians and the Republicans met in a decisive battle near the Macedonian city of Philippi. The republican army was commanded by two of Caesar’s main assassins, Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus.

The scale of the battle at that time was enormous. They say that more than two hundred thousand people participated in it from both sides. It, if taken in modern times, the scale is quite decent.

The right flank of the republican army was commanded by Brutus, and the left by Cassius. And it turned out that due to the huge number of participants, one battle was actually divided into two. At the same time, due to the distance and some terrain conditions, one army could not see how things were going with the other.

Cassius cheerfully began the battle with a decisive attack on the enemy. But then everything went according to plan, and his army just as cheerfully began to advance in an alternative direction. She did this so decisively that the Caesarians immediately captured the fortified camp of the enemy.

Cassius himself, along with his headquarters, was on a hill, from where he helplessly watched the extermination of his army. And at this very time, on the right flank, everything was quite the opposite.

The army of Brutus pushed back the Caesarians and also captured their camp. But Cassius did not know about this. He decided that Brutus was also defeated and desperately awaited the start of an enemy offensive from the rear.

He kept waiting, but the offensive did not begin. And the longer it did not begin, the more anxious became Cassius’ heart. And in the end, when this expectation became completely unbearable, Cassius saw that a huge cloud of dust was moving towards him from the side of Brutus.

In fact, Brutus sent his cavalry to help the ally, but Cassius decided that the very offensive that he was so afraid of had begun. Unable to withstand this unbearable tension any longer and not wanting to fall into the hands of the enemy alive, Cassius retired to the headquarters tent and there ordered his squire to kill himself.

Left alone, Brutus gave a new battle three weeks later, was defeated and also committed suicide. So, due to the fact that Gaius Cassius lost his nerve and could not wait for the enemy offensive, the Republicans were finally defeated by Caesar’s supporters.

However, in fairness, I must tell you that Cassius and his squire were alone in the tent. And only one came out.

And in this regard, some cynical people doubt that the death of Cassius was so voluntary. It may very well be that the nerves did not pass from him, but from his individual closest associates.

By the way, some time before the battle, two eagles nailed to the army of Brutus and Cassius. And the whole army considered this, of course, an exceptionally favorable sign for itself. But the trouble is, on the eve of the battle, the eagles flew away.

So, as you can see, the birds also played a role there. Just like the falcons that dropped the rat on the steps of the government building on the day Babariko and Tsepkalo were denied registration.
